Project Details

Disha Children's Program is an innovative project of Child Fund India ; Bangalore for promoting sustainable community based strategies for the prevention and elimination of child labors engaged in hazardous processes of glass and bangles industries in the city of Firozabad , Uttar Pradesh , India . The project is also working for the mainstreaming of children belonging to marginalized cross-sections of our society like scavengers. Firozabad is known as the city of glass bangles, as the glass and bangles industry is located in this city and the industry is providing livelihood to 90% of the population. Like other industrial cities in India, the glass and bangles industries of Firozabad also involves children, who are basically engaged in various hazardous processes of making glass bangles at different household units. Though it is almost impossible to assess the exact number of children involved in this industry, it can fairly be said that around 20,000 to 30,000 children are working in this industry. These children are deprived of their development opportunities like education, health care, recreation etc. and have no future at all. Disha Children's Program is making positive, need based interventions to bring changes in the lives of these children.
