Each Akanksha centers run in under-utilized spaces such as schools, colleges and offices after or before working hours, every day.

All the Akanksha children are taken on monthly field trips and outings. These are linked into class projects. Field trips include visiting other NGOs and meeting other children, trips to the market, the hospital, the zoo, water kingdom and many more.
Summer Camp
The Akanksha summer camps are opportunities for children to spend their summer learning through recreation. Summer camps have included workshops by clowns, drama, yoga and dance and lots of art and craft. Games and field trips are organized for the children.
Drama

Art for Akanksha
This program aims at developing observation, perception and creative potential through an art curriculum that includes the basics of drawing, painting, traditional Indian art forms and craft activities.

Case Study
Renu Reddy

Renu has been with Akanksha for 6 years. She dreams of becoming a teacher. She comes from a family of 6 brothers. She has a great deal of support from her single mother who sells bananas to earn her livelihood.

Renu is currently studying Arts in Ruia College. She scored 52% in her SSC and is working at bettering her results this year. She volunteers with Akanksha in the mornings, studying at college in the afternoons and household chores in the evenings. Renu is also part of the Social Leadership programme and is constantly trying to implement all her learning's in her life practices.

Naida Ansari

From an 11 year old naughty student at Akanksha to a dedicated teacher at the Akanksha Centre in Worli. Naida has evolved as an individual and is a source of joy to her teachers who have witnessed the change over her 10 years.

She comes from a traditional family with 4 sisters and a brother and at 22 is successfully fending off pressures to get married. Although she was a 7 th standard drop out she made repeated efforts to study and pass her SSC exams.

Naida was recruited as an arts assistant at Akanksha but her potential to be a good teacher prompted Akanksha to recruit her as an assistant teacher in our school project.
