Case Study 1 :
Sooraj is 15 years old and hails from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh. He was born in Pratapgarh and later on came to Mhape where he and his family have been residing for about eight to nine years. Apart from his father and mother he has a younger brother Aakash who is also studying with him at the Mhape center and older sister Seema, aged 17, who is working for a pharmaceutical company where she packages drugs and other medicines.
Till about February 2005, he used to study at the Mahanagar Palika School. He is however enjoying his studies at the Mhapegaon center, which has now enabled him to dream big as he wants to become an engineer and wants to serve the community. Sooraj is also unique because of his skills as an artist. We can see his talent in the photo given along with the text. He also likes to play cricket and like to spend time at home with his siblings.
Kids like him not only attract our sympathy and kind attention but also serve as real life role models for others like them. Thus, it is our duty to ensure that we are able to do the necessary on out part so as to enable these children to fulfill their dreams.
Individual Stories
Some people always outshine others by hard work and an unyielding desire to excel. They serve as role models to other and pave the way for future success stories. A few names are worthy of mention:
Case Study 1 : Mrs. Vali Srinivasan who left the Dhirubhai International School to teach kids at the Turbhey Stores center. She felt that the need for education of the slum children was greater that that of the well-to-do ones.
Case Study 2 : Mangru Gupta, a young kid who use to sell vegetables, now has appeared on TV commercials and songs. In addition to that, he has lately secured admission to one fo the best schools in Navi Mumbai as well.
