- Ruby Mohan

“ Indeed the experience was humbling and brought many of us closer to the ground realities of lives of the people.”
- Rakesh

“ This was the first instance for me to visit such isolated locations where basic human necessities are a struggle to obtain, especially when these areas are at such close proximity to Mumbai known as the financial capital of the nation. The people from the 2 villages we visited were warm, friendly and receptive to our queries regarding their lives.”

Bank of America Conducted Health Camp
For The Tribals In Kasara Village

18 enthusiastic employees of Bank of America organized a health camp on 16th September'06 and dedicated their full day for making a valuable difference in the community.

Bank of America collaborated with United Way to organize the health camp for the tribal villagers in Kasara, a place located on the outskirts of Thane district.

Village Profile
The natives of Kasara village live in the remote forest and the hilly areas far from civilization. The health posts are far from the locality and therefore healthcare is neglected despite the urgent need for it in the community. The camp was organized to address the poor health status and the peculiar health needs of people. The health camp was a boon to the natives, as 277 people including women, children and senior citizens were provided with medical aid.

Partner NGOs
United Way partnered with Bridge Trust and Niramya foundation for conducting the health camp.
Bridge trust works towards welfare of tribal communities in rural Maharashtra to ensure quality of life for them.
Niramaya works for improving the health, hygiene, and quality of life of underprivileged and underserved communities.

Employees…In Action

Together employees proved that language can never be a barrier in reaching out to people. Employees engaged themselves in varied activities and experienced life in the rural area.

Employees began by organizing and managing the villagers who had gathered there for medical assistance. The volunteers also visited the huts of the tribal people and got a hands-on experience about their lifestyle. Some of them also paid a visit to the local school and saw the facilities available there. In addition, some volunteers mobilized children and engaged them with fun filled activities.

Planting a sapling… Planting hope

After the camp; employees planted the saplings in the hilly terrain. The volunteers were thoroughly thrilled to be engaged in such a fruitful activity.

Bank of America's employees travelled far that day...
...but it is only the beginning.
