I first became aware of Project Nanhi Kali ( www.nanhikali.org ) a couple of years back, when I supported a colleague and friend Vivekanand Sharma of ICICI Bank, who was running his 1st full marathon then. I was impressed with their vision, approach and their successes and have continued to believe in their work. The project has a great combination of vision and scalable execution with many implementing NGO partners in the field of education of the girl child.
That is why Project Nanhi Kali was my 1st choice NGO, when this year I decided to take part in SCMM 2014 myself by running my first (half) marathon. I feel inspired to train and run for little girls in various parts of India. My support - by running for, spreading awareness and raising some funds - for this cause is just a small drop in the vast ocean. But it is a drop that I will be very satisfied with if I can complete the distance and raise atleast Rs 5 lacs for the cause. With your support, I am confident that I can!
India has produced several great women. Great erudite scholars - Gargi and Aditi in ancient times; Great queens Rani Lakshmi Bhai, Rani Ahalya Bhai in more recent centuries; Great women astronauts Kalapana Chawla and Sunita Williams in our generation. Yet, and sadly yet, we have more than 55% of our girls between age of five to ten years, are not even literate according to the 2011 census. And this when our standards to benchmark literacy itself are abysmally low!
Education leads to Opportunities leads to Financial Freedom leads to Empowerment!
Quality Education for the Girl Child is the First Step.
Please Support Project Nanhi Kali! My target is to
- Run my 1st half marathon under three hours and
- Raise atleast Rs 5 lacs for them.
And I have begun training hard for the same...
With your generous support and inspiration, I am confident I can accomplish both objectives! Thank you for your generous donation and inspiration!
