The disastrous tragedy that hit Uttarakhand in June destroying and displacing thousands of lives is all well known. This unprecedented nature's wrath has led to massive destruction of lives and property. Hailing from Uttarakhand and having sent my childhood there, the feeling of loss is all the more intense.
Tourism ( Religious or otherwise) is one of the main source of income for the residents of the province. A natural disaster which hits on 'tourism' as a sector would cripple the residents. The flood has washed away the river beds - which are the farmlands due to access to water.
With no farming and no/less tourism, a huge number of residents would be without a stable source of income. I want to work for a cause which can help in rehabilitating the affected regions by providing an alternate employment opportunity or a skill building programme which can create a longer term impact.
I would want to work with United Way of Mumbai for the initiative.

- United Way Mumbai Helpline
United Way Mumbai Helpline (UWMH) is a special initiative of United Way of Mumbai which aims at improving the state of environmental issues, community health as well as the state of disaster preparedness of the city of Mumbai.
Having worked closely with the Rafters' Association right after the destruction, and knowing the topography of the region well, I realise that building lives of those affected is a humongous task. It would require a combined effort from government, agencies as well as individuals.
In individual capacity, I was able to generate funds that proved to be a drop in the ocean. With my vision and dream to take up a village or programme for rebuilding, the funds needed would also be huge.
I strongly appeal to all of you to contribute funds for this. I can assure you that in my personal capacity, I would do as much as possible to make yours and mine dream come true.
